The ECCFPD said the person who died had suffered a cardiac arrest, but it was not clear whether this was a factor in the crash.

The California Highway Patrol said the victim was a 38-year-old man whose Honda Civic crossed the center line into southbound traffic. The Civic collided with a Honda Accord and then into a Toyota Camry.

The CHP said a woman driving the Accord was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries. A woman driving the Toyota was privately taken to a local hospital for minor pain.

The dead motorist’s name has not been released. Each driver was alone in their vehicle.

The accident shut down Deer Valley Road for part of the morning.
