The California Highway Patrol said a gray sedan crashed into a retaining wall at about 10:00 a.m. on I-680 at the North Main Street exit, according to the East Bay Times.
The accident happened in the northbound lanes.
The CHP confirmed the fatality just after 10:30 a.m.
At 10:20 a.m. a second multicar crash near the same location closed the right lane of traffic, the CHP said.
There is no information yet whether the second crash was related to the first, or about injuries in that crash.
